NETWORKING AND CAPACITY BUILDING

NETWORKING

OKOA plans to network with the government and other persons to bring positive change in the community. Through networking OKOA is focusing to see that the community is reached with most of the government ministries; Agriculture, Health, Sports and Culture. Through agriculture the community will gain skills and knowledge about plants and animal husbandry. The community will gain the skills and education which will improve the living standards for most people in the community. Community health and health in general reaches out to the community so that the community will be able to control the factors that contributes to minor disease outbreak that are caused by poor health/sanitation which contributes to most deaths to people in the community. Through sports and culture we are targeting youths to get skills and education in order to exploit their talents hidden in them. Those who are talented with different skills will be exploited positively that will eradicate idleness amongst themselves, also sterring them away from anti social activities such as crime and drugs.  Okoa we are looking forward to see that this aspect is dealt with properly within all 4 project centers that we are working with.

CAPACITY BUILDING

Okoa is initiating projects in complete orphans, widows/widowers, youths, poor people, home based care groups and PICC for sustainability purposes. Through these aspects the targeted victims develop creative abilities that makes them not to be marginalized in the community.

Through PICC in four project centers the committee members and OKOA have started effects towards economic empowerment among orphans. We have initiated a bicycle program. These bicycles are used to start small income generating “Bike tax” business. Bike taxed are common for transportation for individual and goods between town and villages. Through these bikes orphans are able to create cash income to be used and send younger brothers or sisters to school, pay for medicines or supplement food grain on their land. We have 1 bike per project centre whereby the orphaned families are now able to earn at least 50/= per day. Our goal with this aspect it to target 20 orphaned families in each project centre totaling to 80 families with bike tax as income generating activities. We hope to initiate more projects towards orphaned families. Our vision for these aspect for orphaned families, widows/widower, youth, poor people and PICC in the communities is that each have the ability to sustain health living conditions, provide for their own needs, increase their own opportunities and to continue sustainable progress and change.

OKOA is focusing to see that in future of the organization will be able to sustain itself by initiating its own projects which will make the organization to sustain itself through income generating activities. If the funds will be available the organization will initiate the following projects

·         Agro vet and hardware-Through these projects the organization will be able to buy and sell to the community members all type of farm inputs and materials for their farms and homestead in steady of covering more kilometer towards town centre where these materials are easily found. We would like to make community to be access to these commodities.

·         Agricultural machinery for income generating activities. Our goals for this issue is that, due to the fact that Okoa is based in a good agricultural zone where almost each and everybody depends on farming as their major income activities. Therefore we are looking forward if the funds will be available the organization will able to own tractor machines that will help the organization to reach their target and community as a whole with the required farming services.

·         Food bank: Okoa is looking forward to encourage our targeted group to work hard and produce enough for themselves and surplus to be store in one centre store where all food staff will be preserved properly and kept for future use. Also buying more crop production during harvesting periods hence the food staff will be used for relief to our target during famine and drought periods which is the most dangerous season for our orphaned families at large. Seeds multiplication will be advised to be looked especially for the targeted families and community as a whole.

·         Cyber café: The goal objective is to provide affordable skills to our targeted groups who are not able to afford the required fees for training countrywide. Our cyber café will make organization to sustain itself through generating some income from those who are able to reach the expenses for computer skills and internet services.

·         PICC: Project implementing centre committee are the group community members that are trained by the Okoa’s staff in various aspects of community development project planning and maintenance/monitoring.

The PICCs are individuals form within the community that are volunteer to promote and maintain the care of targeted families in general and the development of their community through support.
